DO NOT transfer seniors out of PowerSchool!! NDE has seen several districts do this and it is not the correct thing to do.
ADVISER requires a 210 exit code record be sent for graduated seniors, but this doesn't require you to transfer the seniors out of PowerSchool. Transferring out the seniors will causes more errors. All that needs to be done is to set the seniors Exit Code to whatever your school uses for graduated and change the Exit Date. The Exit Date can be any date between their last day in attendance and the day after the last day in the calendar.
HINT: To do this quickly, you can use the Student Field Value function to do a mass change.

The message below was sent on the PS listserv at 12:20 today. Since some people are not subscribed to the listserv (highly recommend everyone subscribing to both), we are posting it here. To subscribe to the PS listserv, send an email to: powerschool-subscribe@lists.esu10.org.
We expected to have received an email bulletin from NDE by now which would give you more information than what is stated below. The only thing I would add is it is my understanding from the call earlier today, NDE does not want districts to approve their data if it is not correct and changes will be submitted after today.
*****************************************
The VST (Virtual Support Team) had a call with NDE at 11:00. We were told that you will see a notification come out today (via the NDE bulletin channel) with information on how/what to do if your data is not clean by end of the day. They will still be taking the snapshot tonight at midnight but will allow a request to submit late data to clean up any existing errors pertinent to the fall window. They do NOT want you to submit your request until TOMORROW.
There will also be directions sent out on how to approve the collections if your district is ready to do that.
Hang in there everyone!!
Happy Halloween
******************************************

Upcoming Scheduling Workshops at ESU 10
Cost: $35 (lunch included)
PowerScheduler is a very powerful tool that can save a lot of time for whoever setups the schedule and enrolls students. Everyone should be using PowerScheduler to have students enter their course requests for next year. PowerScheduler can use these requests to enroll students into their courses. The workshops are broken down into three areas:
PowerScheduler: Build & Load overview - Thursday, February 8th
This workshop will cover the initial setup that is needed to get the scheduling process started, including the setup of the student request screens.
PowerScheduler: Prepare to Build - Thursday, March 15th
This workshop will cover the complex world of a Build. A Build is where you give PS all the necessary information and it creates a schedule. If you don’t like your current schedule or your schedule is going to change for next year, letting PowerScheduler Build the schedule is an option to creating the schedule manually.
PowerScheduler: Prepare to Load - Thursday, April 12th
This workshop will show how to Load the student requests into the schedule. No matter if you are going to use this current year’s schedule (even with a few tweaks) or if you had PowerScheduler Build it, the Load process will automate enrolling students into their requested courses.
To register for these courses, click HERE and search for PowerSchool.
Also, PowerSchool will be offering scheduling workshops in Lincoln, hosted by the Diocese of Lincoln Schools. More information will be posted soon.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

NSSRS folks,
We have noticed an issue with the Student Grades report when a student has stored grades for a dropped section. In this case the record on the report will have a blank Staff ID, the PS course number will be in the CourseCodeLong field instead of the State’s course number (Alternate Course Code field) and the SectionCodeLong field will contain the SectionID of the Section’s table record, not the section number. The SectionCodeLong issue may not cause a problem, but the issue with the Staff ID and CourseCodeLong will cause errors with the State. The good news is this report isn’t due for a few more months and we’re sure there will be a fix fairly soon.
For your reference, there have been two cases submitted to PowerSource on this issue, #02732523 and #02732799.

Are you experiencing reoccurring slowness in PowerSchool? If you are, please fill out a Google form so we can get a better idea of the general characteristics of the slowness and try to determine if there is a consistent pattern across multiple districts. The form has 11 questions and hopefully is fairly quick and easy to complete. You will be able to see all the submissions. With this information we may be able to identify an issue(s) that we can collectively solve. I recommend you submit a form everyday you experience the slowness. This way we will have collaborating data if we need to take the issue to Pearson.
Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions.
Thanks!

There are several phases in setting up PowerScheduler. The following workshops will cover the different phases.
PowerScheduler: Student Request Screens - Tuesday, February 11th
This workshop will cover how to setup the student request screens. Everyone should be using the request screens to acquire the students’ course requests. We will go over how to setup course groups and the request screens.
PowerScheduler: Prepare to Build - Tuesday, February 18th (repeated)
This workshop will cover the complex world of a Build. A Build is where you give PS the information and it generates a schedule. If you don’t like your current schedule or your schedule is going to change for next year, letting PowerScheduler Build the schedule is an option to creating the schedule manually. This workshop will be repeated on February 26th. Come both days if you wish.

There is a current bug in 7.8.0-7.8.2 that multiples the class rank records every time the class rank is re-calculated, so the CR report will show multiple entries per student. KB article #70497 explains how to delete the multiple records. In short, you go into DDA, search for YearID = 23 and delete the found records.
If you want to run the Class Rank report after you delete the records, you will need to manually recalculate the class rank. School > Class Rank > Recalculation Frequency > Recalculate Now. If your recalculation frequency is set to Daily, you will have duplicates tomorrow. You may want to set the frequency to Monthly or Manual until the bug is fixed.
Also, I know of a school where the class rank report was showing multiple student records, but along with pulling the current seniors, it was also pulling the seniors that graduated last year. Since we can't run Class Rank for previous years, we deleted all the records in the Class Rank table. We could have also searched for YearID >=22 and deleted the last two years of records instead of deleting all.

On a Mac, if you install the latest update of Java, Grade book will not launch. The problem is with Java 7-Update 9 that was released on 10/16. This is affecting only Macs. When the Grade book is launched we are experiencing a small Java 7 window being displayed and it just hangs there.
I called tech support this morning. They became aware of this issue yesterday and at this time they said there is no work around and they are gathering information and the case has been escalated. Of course they said the problem wasn't with PowerSchool, but with Java.
I Googled and found a workaround. If you uninstall Java 7 and reinstall 6, the Grade book will launch. Here are the instructions on how to do it:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_uninstall_java.xml
You will have to have admin rights on the machine and know the admin's password to run the terminal commands.
If you have teachers using Macs, I would tell them to not do any Java updates till they hear back from you letting them know the problem has been fixed.
If you have questions, feel free to contact me.
