I have two PowerSchool issues going on today and I'm wondering if they might be related or fixed by running a special operation. One student who is marked absent isn't showing up when we run the Absentee Report at Start Page > Attendance > Absentee Report. Another student isn't showing up in one F grade search, but appears in another F report.

Things just seem goofy. Is there a Special Operations function (under System > Special Operations) that I could run? We have a banner that says we were to be updated to 19.4.5 last Saturday but I see we're still at 19.4.3.

Thanks!

Hi Jane,

Have you tried Special Functions >Attendance Functions and then Refresh Premier Attendance Views Data. May help with the attendance.  Do not know what to tell you about the grade issue.  Sorry.

Thanks,  Kris Just ran the attendance refresh and it didn't fix the attendance issue. :-( It's weird because other reports find the student. I think this is a custom report but it's used every day. I don't know why it would suddenly not work.

Well dang!

Did you try Special Operation Recalculate Attendance?

Is there a way to suppress letter grades for assignment scores? We want letter grades to show for the final/term grade in Quick Lookup but I have 2 teachers requesting letter grades be suppressed for individual assignment scores. They just want the score and percentage to show. I'm told students stress out too much when they see an F on a five-point assignment. Is this even possible? TIA

I am losing my mind over this stupid report!  I have never had a problem with it before but this year I cannot get it to pull grades for my 9-12 students.  I have check my stored grades and they all appear correct.  I have checked my Reporting Store Codes at the district level.  The curious thing is that I have students that transferred in mid year.  The grades that were hand entered from their previous school appear on the report but not 1 grade for a student that has been here the entire year appears on the report.

Any suggestion will be very greatly appreciated!

I just had the same problem with new students that transfer in with their grades appearing.  I just had to delete them.

Can someone tell me the 4th, 5th and 6th grade PE Course code we are suppose to use.

Make sure your store codes are entered individually at the district.

Thank you for responding!

I am confused by your comment about deleting those grades.  Why did you do that?

I believe the correct code for elementary PE is 080125

I do have my store codes set up individually.

????

I deleted those grades because they were historical grades that belong to that student before they came into our school.  We could not report them.

Are you course codes year long or by quarter?  If year long they belong all in one file like this - Q1,Q2,S1,Q3,Q4,S2

Not sure after this why they would not pull.

My teachers are complaining that PTP allows you to override a final percentage grade but it doesn't change the letter grade to match the new grade. Is this different from PowerGrade? I don't remember getting these complaints last year. Is there something teachers need to do after overriding the final percent? TIA

If the percent is being overridden then they must also change the letter grade to match.  They are "overriding" the grade that means both letter and percent grade.

Suzanne

Thanks, Suzanne. I guess it makes sense, but wish it would grab the correct letter grade when a percent change is made. :-P

Is there a report or way for teachers to print only the final grades for their classes in PowerTeacher Pro? They tell me they can't find a report that doesn't print all grades for the term.

It's finals week, of course, and everyone is scrambling. We're also having network problems. :-P

TIA

Jane,
Have teachers go to a class then click on Grading on Left side of screen. Go down to Comment Verification and click on that it will open a page with students Term final grade only.  They can print that page for each class.

Suzanne

Duh! I knew about that page. Thank you, Suzanne! It's a rough day ...

I have been asked by our Curriculum Department to search for students given a ZERO for an ASSIGNMENT.

I did Special Functions > Search By Grades/Attendance & that only seems to pull the overall grade of zero for teachers who have not given any grades yet.

Has anyone been able to search for this and if so, how?

Thank you!

To Kristy Kennedy:

I couldn't create a comment to your entry so started a new one. For UNL staff, use 00-0000 for the Controlling District Code.

Taken from the NSSRS Student Manual "Provide the literal “00-0000” if the NDE Staff ID [Student Grades:Evaluator 1 Staff ID (7)] provided is a staff person from an agency that does not report staff data to NDE (i.e., post secondary or contracted service providers). "

Thanks.

Can you be a little more specific.  Exactly what is happening when you try to store grades?  Do you have year long, quarter long and semester long classes?  What terms do you need to store credit for?  Try this:
Year long:  Store with no credit
Semester:  Store with no credit
Quarter:  Store with credit

Then go back and try this:
Year:  Store with no credit
Semester:  store with credit

Then if you have year long classes that need credit store those with credit.

So, I went back and did that, and here is what I see when I check a student's historical grades.  She only has one class showing up as S2, but should have others showing up as well.

I noticed my grades weren't saving properly when I tried to run my grades report for NSSRS.

I am also having students who do not have classes showing up on the report.  My seniors have only year long classes that are being picked up on the report.  None of my CIP classes are are the report either.  Sharon is also looking into what the problem is.

Just had a teacher report that a student showed him how the grade indicator arrow goes the wrong way when he adjusts her grade. They tested it out so he could verify the issue. For example, when he changes the grade from 91 to 92, the student's arrow goes down and when he changes the grade from 92 to 91, her arrow goes up. Has anyone else seen this issue? We are on 10.0.4. TIA

I understand there's a way in PowerSchool for teachers to indicate they've verified grades, and reports for administrators to run to see who hasn't verified grades. I've found verification reports, but how does it work on the teacher side? Is there something I need to turn on? Or is it a customization I need to load? TIA

Figured it out. :-) Teachers go to Gradebook > Select Course > Scoresheet tab > Click "S1 in Progress" > Check the "Final Grades Complete" box. Using Gradebook Verification Report for the Custom Reports Bundle.

Good morning, I just found out that the PowerTeacher Pro Gradebook does not allow individual teachers to set their round/truncate preferences for their gradebook. There is currently only a setting at school level.

I found an enhancement request regarding this missing feature. Please help me vote it up:

The quickest way to find it is to log into PowerSource, search "truncate" then click on the Enhancement request tab.

Thanks for you help on this!

Hi all,
Received this message from a teacher

"I just had an interesting conversation with a student who reported that
Student's name here  has the ability to "change" his grades in Powerschool to
show his current status to his parents.  The grades revert to actual
later, but it is disturbing that he is able to make temporary changes to
hoodwink his parents."

I'm inclined to think that is just some big talk by the student in question, but thought I would check in with the experts to see if you have had any real instance of this or anything similar happening.  Thanks.

Can anyone give me reasonings why you feel it's important for teachers to let you know when grades are updated after grades are stored.  What explanation do you give teachers of why this is important, or do you feel it's important?

I was able to install the custom reports bundle with the grade book vs. stored grades report and was shocked at the number of teachers that changed students grades and did not let me know (even after it was told to them that they needed too).

Any thoughts would be appreciated!  Thanks!

I meant Stored Grades vs. Grade book.  :)

We had the same thing happen last summer. We ran the custom report and found a lot of changed grades.   We decided this year we are going to watch closely.   After quarter ended this Oct we ran the report and had 3 teachers change grades and didn't following the proper procedure to get stored grades changed.   I think it is just a matter of you being "cop" so to say and watch the report after you store and talk to those teachers.   We have a Yellow Grade Change form they are suppose to fill out if they change the grade after we store.  This way we have a record of why it was changed.  Maybe show the teachers this report and have them figure out why it changed.  It might make them more responsible the next time you store grades.

We tell our teachers it is important because parents see what is in PowerSchool on the Parent log in side which is Live Grades and the grades for a class could be different from what was sent to them on the report card which are Stored Grades.  If they are different the Teacher must explain to the parents how this has happened.

I think my brain is fried lately.  I just calculated honor roll for a school, looks good, but I want to save that group of kids so I can print certificates.   I thought I did that by matching selections last year in DDE.   However, I am having issues.   I'll keep at it, but if anyone has the answer, it may save me some time!!!

And, I know last year I was then able to run out the certificates easily from there as well.   PowerSource is down, so I'm asking you guys!!

I have a reporting engine report for honor roll that I love.  You can run your honor roll and then it gives you the "Functions" option so you can print a report or whatever you want to do.  If I can send that template through this source I don't know how.  If you would like to give me your e-mail I could forward it to you.  Or  I probably got it from PowerData Solutions if you'd like to check there.

Kris, could you send it to me?    Jibarra@apschools.org

We have noticed that with our new staff this year, they have to go to another screen after entering grades to publish the assignment.  It doesn't appear to be like that for the veteran teachers.  Is there a setting we need to put in so it automatically publishes when the teacher enters a grade?

In the teacher's gradebooks, select Tools > Categories. Select each category and check the Publish Scores box.

They might want to check the other settings in that window, too. If you always use 100 points, I would change the default from 10 to 100.

They will have to publish the scores in the assignment section for any assignments created before checking the box in Categories.

Thanks, I will give that to them :)

I thought I would try to get ahead with state reporting, and pull the Student Grades Report for S1.  I can't pinpoint what I'm doing wrong, as I am able to pull our ES and our MS information, but not the high school.  I've tried being in the S1 term, I've tried being in the year-long term, I've tried being in Q3 term, and I still get nothing for the HS.
Any suggestions?

Do you have the settings at District > Schools/School Info > select the high school > Reporting Store Codes. I entered Term 2012-2013 with store codes S1,S2, Term Semester 1 with store code S1, and Term Semester 2with store code S2. If you have any Quarter long classes, you will need to enter Quarter 1 with Q1, etc.

I don't understand why the ES and MS exports, but it appears that these need to be entered each school year.

Thanks Sharon, it looks like problem solved :):):)

I have some students that left our district during first semester, or right at the end.  On the grades report starting with teacher name-in the teacher name it only shows the staff member's last name, then their first name shows in the staffid column.  Everything else in the record moves over one column with that.
This affects all students that left our district during S1, regardless of exit date.
Any suggestions on this?

This is the Grades Report we have been using for our downs list.  I have updated it to 7.x and it should work on other servers (removed our localization's).  This report generates a list of students on the screen.  It does not create an export file you can download.  We use custom pages in PowerSchool System Administrator so I have dropped the file in the reports folder under the admin folder.  You can ether give that link to your principals/counselors or edit your reports list to include it.

Click here to download the file.  (You will need to right-click and do a "Save link as" and rename it to gradesreport.html)

Bryan,
Thanks for fixing this report for 7.0. I have a question though.  Can I upload this report using Report Engine - Upload local report?
I tried the Low Grades Report today that I had in my Reporting Engine prior to 7.0 and I received an error...very frustrating.
I am assuming your fix is what is needed for the 7.0 version.
Thanks for any advice.....I loved this report and want it back!!!

Matt Freund posted directions for fixing the report on PSUG. Here is a link to the updated Low Grades Report if you don't want to make the fix.

http://www.sisresources.com/reporting-engine/re-reports

Thank you VERY much Kristi.  I was able to follow the direction and make it work.  I appreciate your directions..you have made me a happy girl!

I have a High School teacher using PT Gradebook asking this question :

(our iChat script:) I want cumulative points to get an A
You have to have accumulated 900 points
a kid could get 25 points one week
and get 175 the next week...
It wants to average everything into a percentage

How do you set this up in the gradebook?

In GPA calculations, you can specify the school years the calculation is run on. You could modify an existing GPA calculation, but I would just create a new one with the parameters you need.

We started standards on our Elem Report cards last year. This year the Q1 was ok. Everything ran great. The teachers used powerteacher to put in the standard grades. This quarter, we showed the teachers how to put in standards via gradebook. We tested this all out in Nov/Dec on one school. Everything was working by the time X-mas came up with just a few very minor issues with comments(fixed by the the patch). Now Report cards are due to be printed. The school that we did the testing on, works. All standard grades are showing up with regular grades. The other schools are not. Their regular grades show up but not standard grades. We have been comparing the schools and can't find anything that is different except the Reporting Segments which I have changed to match the school that works. Nothing still. We are storing the standards via the System/Store Standard Grades. The admin who did it for the school that works, confirmed that we are doing all the step correctly. I have verified that the standards are in via DDA and on gradebooks but have not verified that they have been stored as historical as can't seem to find that.
Any one have a idea where we can look to get the grades on the Report Card?? Codes are all write and match everything else. We are trying to show a Q2 standard grade on the report card.

Thanks

You do not need to use that function if you are using the gradebook or PowerTeacher for standards. They automatically store withour running store standard grades.

If you go to a student and their quick look up and view standard grades, do you see standard grades for Q2 or just Q1.

Checked the quick lookup, completed standards only show Q2 not Q1.. Q1 was done in powerteacher, Q2 was done in gradebook. Read something that is the way it is suppose to be too. This was on a school that the RC does not work too.

Does your code on the report card object report look something like this for the standards

(*std.stored.transavg;E.P.REA.3.1;Q1)<tabc 6.75>~(*std.stored.transavg;E.P.REA.3.1;Q2)<tabc 7.25>~(*std.stored.transavg;E.P.REA.3.1;Q3)<tabc 7.75>~(*std.stored.transavg;E.P.REA.3.1;Q4)
